The Resurrection
75:1
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
I swear by the Day of Resurrection.
— Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali & Muhammad Muhsin Khan
75:2
وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer).

75:3
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?

75:4
بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.

75:5
بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
Nay! Man (denies Resurrection and Reckoning. So he) desires to continue committing sins.

75:6
يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
He asks: "When will be this Day of Resurrection?"

75:7
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ
So, when the sight shall be dazed.

75:8
وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ
And the moon will be eclipsed.

75:9
وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ
And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light).

75:10
يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ
On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?"

75:11
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
No! There is no refuge!

75:12
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
Unto your Lord (Alone) will be the place of rest that Day.

75:13
يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions).

75:14
بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ
Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds],

75:15
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds).

75:16
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ
Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur’ân, O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) to make haste therewith.

75:17
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) the ability to recite it (the Qur’ân).

75:18
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ
And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم through Jibrîl (Gabriel)], then follow its (the Qur’an’s) recital.

75:19
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
Then it is for Us (Allâh) to make it clear (to you).

75:20
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
Not [as you think, that you (mankind) will not be resurrected and recompensed for your deeds], but you (men) love the present life of this world,

75:21
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
And neglect the Hereafter.

75:22
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ
Some faces that Day shall be Nâdirah (shining and radiant).

75:23
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ
Looking at their Lord (Allâh).

75:24
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ
And some faces, that Day, will be Bâsirah (dark, gloomy, frowning, and sad),

75:25
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ
Thinking that some calamity is about to fall on them.

75:26
كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),

75:27
وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ
And it will be said: "Who can cure him (and save him from death)?"

75:28
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ
And he (the dying person) will conclude that it was (the time) of parting (death);

75:29
وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
And one leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded).

75:30
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ
The drive will be, on that Day, to your Lord (Allâh)!

75:31
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
So he (the disbeliever) neither believed (in this Qur’ân and in the Message of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) nor prayed!

75:32
وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
But on the contrary, he belied (this Qur’ân and the Message of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and turned away!

75:33
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
Then he walked in conceit (full pride) to his family admiring himself!

75:34
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
Woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!

75:35
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
Again, woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!

75:36
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
Does man think that he will be left neglected (without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord Allâh on him)?

75:37
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ
Was he not a Nutfah (mixed male and female sexual discharge) of semen emitted (poured forth)?

75:38
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Then he became an ‘Alaqah (a clot); then (Allâh) shaped and fashioned (him) in due proportion.

75:39
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
And made of him two sexes, male and female.

75:40
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
Is not He (Allâh Who does that) Able to give life to the dead? (Yes! He is Able to do all things).
